Math has four basic operations – addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Addition‘s sign is + and it is worded as “plus”. You can say 2 plus 3, when you’re adding 2 and 3 together, and it is written as 2+3. It is used when two or more quantities are being combined.
Subtraction‘s sign is – and it worded as “minus”. You can say 3 minus 2 when you’re subtracting 2 from 3, and it is written as 3-2. It is used when one quantity is being subtracted, or taken away from another.
Multiplication‘s sign is . or x and it is worded as “times”. You can say 3 times 2 when you’re multiplying 3 by 2 and it is written as 3×2. It is used when one quantity is being multiplied by another.
Division‘s sign is : and it is worded as “divide” or “divided by”. You can say 6 is divided by 2 and it is written as 6:2. It is used when one quantity is being divided by another quantity.
